Credit Librado Romero/The New York Times Thousands of longshoremen in New York and New Jersey walked off the job on Friday, grinding activity at some of the busiest ports on the East Coast to a halt and threatening to disrupt the delivery of goods across the region. New York Today: Respect the Paw
Updated at 11:00 a.m. Good morning on this frosty Friday. Some things just go together: spaghetti and meatballs, Bert and Ernie, winter sidewalks and dog booties. It’s that time of year when even the toughest-looking dogs are wearing itty-bitty booties. Researchers have found that dog paws have “built-in snow boots,” allowing them to walk and frolic in the snow without getting frostbite. (Essentially, their paws have a slightly different vascular system to conserve body heat.)In fact, paws won’t..

Why 'Mama Love' packs 'Workout New York's biggest punch
Even the most casual Bravo TV watchers are well aware of series leads like NeNe Leakes, Bethenny Frankel and Lisa Vanderpump. But part of what makes the network’s reality shows so much fun are the lesser characters — think “Flipping Out’s” wisecracking housekeeper, Zoila, or the flamboyant Miss Lawrence on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.” They seemingly appear out of nowhere to subtly dominate each season. And Bravo’s newest show, “Work Out New York,” is no exception — thanks to its wonderfull..

New York Times Gets it Wrong: Bernie Sanders Not
The New York Times caused a stir by publishingĂ‚ a classic man-bites-dog style campaign finance story in its Friday editions titled “Bernie Sanders Is Top Beneficiary of Outside Money.” The article charges that despite his fiery campaign rhetoric against Super PACs and big money in politics, Sanders has gained much more from Super PAC spending than his Democratic opponents. “In fact,” the Times reports, “more super PAC money has been spent so far in express support of Mr. Sanders than for either ..

New York Is Going to Turn Off Niagara Falls. Here's How
Sometime within the next five to seven years, a section of Niagara Falls will go dry. This isn’t a case of the great western drought creeping east, but rather New York’s plan to, for lack of a better term, turn off the famed waterfall. The most astonishing part of the whole idea is that it’s not nearly as crazy, difficult, expensive, or novel as it may sound. There’s an official, underwhelming word for the procedure: dewatering. And it’s been done before. The American Falls section of the conti..
